I am happy to report, that with a healthy dose of self doubt and a few struggles here and there... I am on the up-side of Indigo Sky. I have actually made it past 160 pages. I assume it to have around 100 more to go... we shall see. This has been no easy task working 40+ hours a week, doing college tours with my son(who has since committed to play football for USD) taking care of the running of the house and all it's inhabitants(including a sick old dog) and my amazing ability to type about 20 words a minute. On top of that... I spend way too much time on youtube. That being said... here is a little clip for those of us who have ever struggled with a storyline...(be advised that some may find this offensive, listen at your own risk)

So those that know me, know I love Vampires. So of course I went to see Twilight. I thought they did a pretty good job adapting the book to movie. But... the funniest thing, the "prom song" in the movie has the most random lyrics I've ever heard. It's bloody brilliant. I bet most people never even know what they are. For your listening pleasure...

Flightless Bird, American Mouth

I was a quick wet boy, diving too deep for coins
All of your street light eyes wide on my plastic toys
Then when the cops closed the fair, I cut my long baby hair
Stole me a dog-eared map and called for you everywhere

Have I found you
Flightless bird, jealous, weeping or lost you, american mouth
Big pill looming

Now I'm a fat house cat
Nursing my sore blunt tongue
Watching the warm poison rats curl through the wide fence cracks
Pissing on magazine photos
Those fishing lures thrown in the cold
And clean blood of Christ mountain stream

Have I found you
Flightless bird, grounded, bleeding or lost you, american mouth
Big pill stuck going down

So happy it's friday...

I've never been a morning person. My life requires that I awake each weekday at 5:45am and 6:30am on weekends.
Every Monday I arrive at work, and proceed directly to the coffee! By then I've had a shower, taken 5 minutes to Kala, fed the kids and animals and tended to the garden. It's a good thing I wear scrubs to work and put my hair in a clip. I have wished to be anywhere else but work, most days.

Now in a time where unemployment has reached 6.7% and is climbing, I am so grateful to have to drag my butt out of bed everyday. I have a good paying job, where people appreciate what I do and I have the opportunity most days to make someones life just a bit better. I love and respect the people I work with. I have excellent affordable health insurance, and a company that pays my college tuition as long as my grades are good. I am so Thankful for that! There are more and more people who would envy this opportunity and I can't forget that.

So I pay it forward as I can, and remain grateful even if I can't handle perky till after 10am. Thank the Gods that so far Starbucks is recession proof, because if I can drag my butt out early enough they are always there with hot java and a smile!

What is up with mean people??? A co-worker of mine found out she is on a blog... actually 3, and all by the same person. The Blogger is a patient of ours who is 50 years old and is just a nasty individual. She was blogging a bunch of hateful stuff about anothr Doctor, and near the bottom, she gave props to one of our Docs but said his staff tried to screw her over. She used my co-workers first and last name and said she lacked empathy and has dirt for brains. Her incognito blog name is no match for my detective skills and I was able ti figure out who she was. Might I say that we all remember her and she was insanely impossible to deal with. But I happen to know that my co-worker bent over backwards to help this woman and got her exactly what she wanted. So why then the hate???? She states in her blog that she was "discharged" from her other Doctor for being abbusive to the staff(go figure) and says how this could never be and that she has been in good standing with the Mormon Church for 20 years. Yet... I emailed her privately to remove my friend's name and not only has she refused to do so, but she was nasty to me as well. So... being the captain avenger that I am, I emailed the links to all her blogs to the other Doctor who's practice she is clearly trying to destroy because he wouldn't just yank out her uterus. Then I told her that if she hated our staff so much, maybe she should not come to us, as we all know who she is now and neither Doctor is happy with her.(all with my Docs consent)
Might I add that she hasn't seen any of the Docs since last summer, and she has now just decided to start blogging about it.

What is this Country coming to?

If there is one thing I came away with from this past election, is how intolerant people really are of each others beliefs!
I am truly saddened by it. I shouldn't be surprised by it, but yet somehow I still am.

Sarah Palin... we couldn't be more different! I'm a vegetarian for moral issues, she hunts moose. I believe in the woman's right to safe abortion, she clearly would revoke Roe v Wade. She's afraid of Witches... I'm a witch. I could go on, but my point is actually that I am appalled at how she was demonized and belittled by the press. I have friends that I love and respect who are strong conservative women, and I was amazed at how the message was sent that any woman with conservative values is worthless and a huge step back in equality. WTF?
Really? So just because someone's opinion differs(albeit vastly) from yours that means they are a worthless ignorant piece of crap?

I am the mother of a conservative son, who is brilliant, kindhearted, and truely an amazing kid. I've never had to worry about drugs, bad friends, bad grades, etc... He's an All American Football player with a 4.0 GPA and still kisses his Mom after every game, before bed and before he leaves for school. My biggest challenge with him is he still won't give up meat. Inspite on his conservative leanings, he is still my kid, so he is not opposed to gay marriage and is comfortable around my gay friends. But even now as we look at colleges, I have to be careful as to which University we choose. Those that have been heavily recruiting him are also so liberal that the conservative students have faced harsh intolerance and harassment. Some are even graded harshly by professors when writing about conservative viewpoints. Here I thought my challenge was to find a school that offers his major(criminal justice) and not one where he will have to defend his right to his beliefs. The same with my daughter. She's a beautiful young woman, who because she was not on the Obama bandwagon, had to tolerate ridicule at work and was called a communist. This may have been a joke, but she did not see the humor in it. Besides the fact that the persons involved were clearly uneducated as to what the term actually means... and come to find out they never even voted!

I have friends that voted liberal (Obama), yet voted against gay marriage, and friends that voted for McCain and for the right of gay marriage... like my daughter.
I don't understand how church organizations can spend so much money trying to support prop 8, when it clearly could have been spent on helping their communities. If you don't believe in gay marriage, fine... but why impose your morals on the population as a whole.
I know some who voted Obama because he's black(or at least 1/2) and I suspect some didn't vote for him for that very same reason.
Both sides of this are ignorant as far as I'm concerned.

I guess the reason I'm the most shocked is that many in my own spiritual community, who fight for tolerance and equality turned out to be some of the most intolerant of all.

So here we are... Obama will take office shortly, and I feel for the man. He stepping into a situation I don't think any other President has had to face when taking office. But as with every other President... he'll take the blame for the bad even if he didn't cause it. He will need everyone in this country to back him up, as our road ahead is a bumpy one!

And to those of you who may take offense at my words... ask yourself why.
Please don't be part of the problem, be the solution. Learn to accept each others differences, you don't have to subscribe to anyone's ideology or politics, nor do they to yours. Agree to disagree, and embrace diversity.

For we do live in The Land of the Free and the Home of the Brave!

Sometimes I ask myself why I ever wanted to be a writer... Well, truth is I don't!
I'm a story-teller. I love stories. I really love movies!
But I find myself having to be a writer for a Sociology class on health care that I'm taking this semester and it's agonizing. My writing tends to be more of a prose, and it seems my professor likes poetry. Like seriously??? This is a look at health care from a sociological perspective.
How does one write poetry when comparing America's Health Care to the UK or Canada? Or when discussing the right to die?
I suppose I shouldn't complain... it's still by far nowhere near as painful as math!

The days are still warm here. I have tomatoes & bell pepper in the garden. My Boy's Football season is 1/2 over.
I've been working on a book(shhhhh) 125 pages so far. Big plans for the backyard... Wytchwood Farms is coming right along. Fire season has begun and the news is on it non-stop. Our 401k's are destroyed, thank the Gods we're young enough to try again... more than two years gross income gone, overnight. We moved what bit is left to a money market.
Blessed we are that we put the boy's college money in a safe account. I feel the call of simplicity. Room to breathe.
The world is crazy... but I'm at peace.

This is from my other blog, but I feel passionate about the message...
My daughter had seen this show and had me watch it. I've seen this kinda stuff before, but what made it so disturbing was that I know the dairy farm they showed. I wish everyone could see this place... no grass to be found, the smell is so horrible(and I don't mind cow smell), thousands and thousands of cows it makes me cry every time I see it. Not to mention burns a hole in my nasel passages, more greenhouse gasses than all the cars in that area put together! Anyway... please check out the links.
Animal rights

The basis of this blog is about living green, sustainable living, and health & wellness for all "Earthlings".
I don't know how many of you have seen "30 Days", but there is one episode in particular that conveys a very important message...
http://www.tv.com/video/Pn__mVXhMLpsWYMUldwTvCFMzGnRRZp9/animal-rights?o=hulu&tag=video;watchbtn;4
Please give it a looksee.

The context is a hunter who spends 30 days with a family of Vegans/Animal Rights Activists. The choice to be vegan is a very personal one, but whether yor are an omnivore, vegetarian, or vegan, we can all agree on one thing...
Animals should never be abused, tortured, or suffer inhumane conditions! Not as pets, not as food, not for cosmetics or medicine or clothing!
Please educate yourself on factory farming, be willing to spend a bit more on ethically raised meat if you choose to eat it.
Purchase cruelty free products.
Every time you spend money, you are casting a vote... please vote in favor of cruelty free.

There is an excellent movie about our human dependence on animals, please see the movie Earthlings.
http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=-1282796533661048967
This is a hard movie to watch and not meant for children. Please muster your courage. Education can be painful, but rewarding.
There is no judment here, just a need to educate and stop the suffering. For the world to heal, we must start somewhere.

Missing Maui

Posted on 2008.08.08 at 18:58

I'm fairly certain that my friends are so over me missing the island! I'm am still disgruntled that Aloha Air closed down.
I keep checking the airfares and it's downright crazy. Amanda and I just went in Feb and we paid $300 each, round trip!
Total... tax and all. They were $129 each way. I'm so glad I got the chance to be there and out on the water during whale birthing season. There were so many babies. Which of course really makes it shark season too. Notice I said on the water, not in the water.

Here's a big one...
I've almost stopped drinking coffee(gasp) I'm down to like 1 or 2 a week! Starbucks has a fab Black Iced Tea(sweetend) and I'm currently snuggly with a Lavender Earl Grey(yum) I learned to love tea and tea-time while in the UK (many) years ago. I'd say I started my coffee addiction about 5 or 6 years back... damn Starbucks. I must have about 12 different teas at home right now. Oh... insted of water... try hot soy milk with 2 tea bags. I think It's called a misto... or teasto... who knows. Starbucks makes that too. Berry Blossom tea misto...yum!

I'm sitting on my bed and Jack(the dog) is all splayed out on his back taking up the room. He's tired after his daily swim. He swims every day in the pool for 30 to 60 minutes. We throw his half deflated basketball and he goes after it. Even if you take the ball away, he'll do laps and ignors you if you call him to get out. It's so funny. He's my only dog that does that.

Sad... I'm sure she's happy, but the surrogate "Moms" are just a commodity.
Korea could give a crap-less about animals. It's all about the $$$$.
I love my dogs too! Jack is so bonded to me, I can't make a move without him
at my side. "Backyard" breeders are no better! People who don't breed for the betterment
of the dog... it's just about the money. Some people just plain suck!
